The last week of December is here & it’s the time when everyone celebrates. Just like every year, for a lot of people, this celebration will be drinking/smoking to get some chemically induced high.
But is it what celebration really is? Why have these things become a way/significant part of our celebrations? Do we really need these substances?
We’ve been blessed with such a beautiful life & a highly evolved brain. There is so much happening around in nature & within ourselves which if looked in the right way can become an ever-lasting source of this so-called ‘high’
But the way alcohol/ smoking has got embedded into the modern’s day lifestyle, it has become the new normal for the majority of people. We have accepted it while being fully aware of its downside. Everyone has their own sets of reasons to justify.
It’s not that I am trying to preach & tell people what’s right or wrong. I hardly understand 1% of the world myself. It’s just that if something impacts your health, is it really worth it? Is numbing your senses, the only way to get away from the world of sadness into happiness? What’s the point of a state of happiness which you don’t even remember after returning to your normal state of mind?
I feel somewhere we are just trying to suppress/run from pain/ stress/sadness rather than accepting it,facing it & dealing with it. These things are an integral part of our life and no matter how hard you try you can’t live without them. Life won’t be life without them. We value happiness because sadness exists. We value joy because misery exists. Everything is required to make us what we are.
So we need to accept all these things and learn to live with them rather than running from them in search of some artificial high. The sooner we accept, the better it would be for us. Bcz that’s the ULTIMATE truth!
