Call me an oldie, boomer, whatever fits, but I’ve genuinely started losing faith in what modern dating has become lately. A friend showed me a video the other day. People casually bragging about body count. Laughing, comparing, almost competing. And I just sat there for a second thinking… is this really where we’ve landed?

Where are we even heading as a society? What are we slowly turning relationships into? What are we even celebrating here?

This whole thing feels like a cheap points game now. Numbers to chase, numbers to show, numbers to feel like you matter. And somehow, people playing this game have packaged it really well. Called it confidence. Called it being evolved. Called it not being “too attached.”

But if you look closely, it doesn’t feel like confidence.

It feels like restlessness. Like needing the next person before the current moment even settles. Like validation that expires quickly, so it has to be constantly replaced.

We’ve reduced connection to transactions. People to experiences. Moments to something you just move past.

And then we act surprised when nothing feels deep anymore. There was a time when staying meant something. When effort wasn’t seen as desperation. When knowing someone took time, and that time actually mattered.

Now everything feels replaceable. Like there’s always another option waiting, so why invest, why stay, why try.

But when everything becomes an experience, depth starts to feel like a burden.

And maybe that’s where something important is quietly getting lost.

When everything is available, nothing really feels valuable. And when nothing feels valuable, you slowly stop expecting it to.
