Our mind is an amusing yet confusing thing. Whenever something bad happens, it takes you down a rabbit hole of thinking how messed up everything in your life is. It will start finding all kinds of reasons to make sure that you believe in it. But then, as time passes, things start changing.
1 day: You feel like shit. 1 week: You feel like shit. 1 month: You feel slightly better. 2 months: You realize maybe things aren’t as bad as you thought (there are people having it worse). 6 months: You realize maybe you were a fool back then to make such a big deal out of it.
But then, all of a sudden, it will drag you back to those moments-randomly, without warning. A song, a smell, or a quiet moment can ignite the very feelings you thought you’d left behind. It’s a cycle, and the mind loves playing this game.
What I have learnt over time is that the key isn’t to escape it but to observe it, to remind yourself: “I’ve been here before, and I’ve survived.” Because if there’s one thing our mind forgets in the chaos, it’s how resilient we truly are. 10-10-10 rule is a useful tool if you are struggling in scenarios like this!
